National Library Week was organized by T John Group of Institutions by Library professionals and supporting staff on 19th November 2010.
This year marks the 52nd anniversary of National Library Week, a time to celebrate the contributions of Libraries, Librarians and Library workers in schools, campuses and communities Nationwide. Celebrating National Library week, contributions of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan were remembered one and all.
On this day welcome speech was addressed by Mr. Jummappa, History of Library week was addressed by Sri B.G.  Savakkanavar. Chief guest our Campus Director Wg. Cdr (Ret’d) P. Sambasivan , TJC Principal Dr. George Easaw and Vice Principal Dr. Nilanjana Basu were present and addressed the program systematically and suggested the Library staff to conduct such type of programs to encourage the students to use Library service more and more.
A debate on whether the Internet is replacing the written word saw members of the audience remarking that books are here to stay and can never be replaced by the Internet or E-Books.

Rockfeller Review Meeting 2010 

Rockefeller review meeting was held on 3rd Nov.  2010. The meeting goals set by different departments, for the next three months were presented the meeting. Library also set goals for the next quarter. The meeting of library is on;
  1. Classification and shelving.
  2. Cataloguing of items in MIST.
Classification and shelving:
            60% of classification is complete and remaining 40% is set to be completing next three months.
Shelving of books according to DDC (Dewey decimal classification) class numbers is also planned to be completed after the completion of classification. Sticking of spine labels is also planned for all the collections of the Library.
Cataloguing of items in MIST:
This is the major plan of this quarter which will really enhance the quality of the service, library offers to its users. Entering of bibliographic details in all the fields in the MIST is also planned so that in all the operations of the library including OPAC will reset in effective retrieval process of the items by users.
Feedback:
The panel present at the meeting also suggested some useful tips to improve the quality of service library provides. They are as follows;
  1. The Principal suggested introducing high speed broadband internet connectivity to the library to stress more on e-services.
  2. Mr. Ravi Shankar Achar Suggested to offer reprographic (Printouts, scanning and photocopying) service to users in library and thus widen the scope of the library.
  3.           Mr. Rajesh Nayak stressed to send the Librarian to other library visits and to conferences to get exposure to the present trends in the field of Library and Information Science which will be helpful in applying the new technologies. He also expressed to donate library books which are not in use to NGOs. Librarian’s view on this matter is that this decision should be taken by the Library authority and the management of the Institute.
